Sazama, Joseph (29 Oct. 1898 - 15 Sept. 1948)
Colby - Joseph Sazama, 45 years old, and his son, David, 3, were killed instantly in a highway accident about 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. The tragedy occurred at a town road intersection a mile north of Cherokee and five miles northeast of Colby, Wis.
Mrs. Sazama, also in the truck, was taken by the Wausau city ambulance to St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield.
Sazama was driving west toward Colby in a farm truck loaded with a calf. Apparently vision was obscured by a tall field of corn at the southeast corner of the intersection.
As he pulled out from the crossing, his truck and a second truck, owned by the Olson Garage, Cherokee, and driven by Edward Olson, collided. Both vehicles overturned. Sazama was pinned in his crushed truck and his wife and son were trapped underneath.
A passenger in the Olson truck, Earl Robertson, 52, Colby, suffered severe lacerations about the face and head, various bruises and shock. He also was taken to the hospital. Olson was apparently unhurt.
Mrs. Sazama has a badly lacerated ear, severe back injuries and a head injury and was still in a semi-conscious condition, Wednesday night.
The bodies of Sazama and his son were taken to the Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, Wis.
The Sazama truck was completely wrecked and the other vehicle was badly damaged.
Mr. Sazama is survived by seven other children, Mary, Margaret, Joseph, Dorothy, William, Anthony, and Daniel, all at home. His mother, Mrs. Joseph Sazama, Sr., lives at Colby, Wis.
Funeral arrangements are being made for Saturday morning at Colby at St. Mary’s Catholic church.
